my husband and I have not used the email systems for awhile, he can't remember what he used this was some years ago. I am trying to log in as myself with a new password in able to apple for job openings as well as send reply to email received.

Sorry, that's not enough to go on. What type of e-mail? Is it Apple Mail, or Google or Hotmail... that kind of thing. Beyond that, I think you're going to need an administrator logged in so that a new account can be created. You might have to contact your service provider for help.
