I'm new to Mac and I've had my Macbook Pro since about the end of February. I have yet to figure out how I can download apps and do updates to my apps from the app store without having to enter a username and password every time. It get's annoying. Any help would be amazing! :)

This is for your protection. It is to make sure nothing is downloaded to your computer that you haven't authorized. Personally, I am thankful it asks...it gives me the chance to review/rethink any potential download.

I'm assuming you're referring to having to enter your Apple ID and password when downloading or updating from the App store? This protects your account and insures your apps are up to date and that you're not getting charged for downloads you didn't authorize.

Whenever something new is being installed on your Mac it will always ask for your user name and password, and you must be an administrator to install anything. This is one way OSX safeguards against malware. If something malicious were to try to secretly download itself onto your Mac, it too would need your authorization.

I will be alarmed if it won't ask. My credit card info is in my apple id. So you should be glad about that than be annoyed. It's for your own protection.

frusterating!!!!

I just upgraded to the new Macbook Pro, I'm trying to transfer everything from my old hard drive and organize it all. Every single time I want to move something to a new folder it makes me retype my password. Every single time I want to modify the name of something I have to retype my password. I am so sick of retyping my password I'm ready to throw this thing out the window. This is SO frusterating. Am I missing something? or is there really no way to change this?

Did you ever think to use the Migration Assistant application instead?

Yes, there really is a way to change that.

But first, let me point out that what we WERE talking about is the Mac asking for passwords when you install software, which is a security thing and ENTIRELY different to what you're asking about.

Your problem is (like a lot of PC users) you've set yourself up as a USER rather than ADMIN. Sensible move on a PC -- unnecessary move on a Mac.

Solution: upgrade your account to Admin.
