Aperture buying used off ebay

Hi, still new to macs, I need better software than iphoto so I can organize my photo's better, looking at used aperture 2 on ebay , do these need to be registered with serial numbers or can I just download from the cd direct to my hard drive, thanks for any help, steve L

Yes you need a serial number. And, why not just download from the APP Store $79 USD?
