I often recommend people have a look at Crucial.com, even if you don't buy memory from them. They have some tools to help identify the specific memory modules you need and can tell you exactly what the capacity of your system is.

Apple states 4 GB for your model, however, Mactracker says you can install up to 6 GB. That means 1 x 4GB module + 1 x 2GB module = 6 GB. You can not install 8 GB.
