Dear Forum I have just purchased a 13" mac book pro for the reason I was told (no virus software needed with a mac). After the recent scare I was wondering which is the best FREE antivirus software? because I have not got a clue, Thanks

Download and install the free ClamXav 2 for Mac OS X. It's open source, free, and will not interfere with your system. Download from here. Also be sure to read out Sticky Notice at the top of the forum regarding AV software.

Your mac already comes with anti-malware software built-in, there's not really a need for Clam unless you feel like you would like it anyway.

The recent "scare" was because of a flaw in Java, not in OS X. Your new MBP doesn't even have Java installed unless you have installed it yourself. Ergo, no possibility of a problem (not that Apple hasn't already fixed it of course, they have).
