hi folks, longtime mac user here with a question: i've got a G5 Powermac, non-intel machine. is it possible to swap the processor for one of the intel-based processors? i know the answer is most likely a no, but i see the processors for sale on ebay, and the actual hardware of the quad core intels and the dual core non-intels looks almost identical, save for the processors.

any chance on that long shot, or do i need to just buy a new intel desktop?

Nope..you cannot swap processors from entirely different architectures..and on more recent machines, you can't swap processors from the same architecture..

Apple has clearly moved on from the PowerPC architecture and lower-end Intel processors..so your best bet is to purchase an newer Intel-based Mac..
