To start with the electronic junkyard dogs that protect this site make it nearly un usable to people like me. They should not let the dogs in with the kids.

My problem is this, I have an old (5 years) macbook. It recently quit working.
I purchased on the net, a new hard drive and two new plug in memory chips.
yesterday I changed them out.
I do not have a boot up disc to program with for the old Macbook.
I also have a Macbook Pro, (one year old), that I do have the discs for.
I tried to use them to start up the old Macbook. No luck, I got a window telling me that the disc could not program my machine.
How do I obtain a new boot up disc for my "repaired " Macbook?
Thankyou for any help.

You can obtain a new startup disk for your MacBook by shopping for one on eBay. Since you didn't tell us which version of OS X the 5 year old MacBook is running, we'll assume Tiger or maybe Leopard. Either will be expensive so it may be more to your advantage to go on line to the Apple site and purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $29.99.

Well, that might depend on where the OP is located...
