Hey everyone, I have a question about buying a Macbook. What is oldest model I could buy used that could run the latest software (OS, bootcamp, etc.)?

I am looking to buy a used Macbook so that I can get the wife comfortable with it and then upgrade to something new and shiny down the road. She loves my company iPad, so now I'm using that momentum to get a Macbook.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Mac-Forums

To run Lion and the upcoming Mountain Lion later this year, you want at least a Core2Duo Macbook..so anything post 2009 should serve your purposes..

You obviously want to buy the newest version within your budget.

Keep in mind that Apple has dropped support for certain graphic chipsets with Mountain Lion. The GMA 950 and X3100 for example, are not supported, thus, any machines with those chipsets will not be able to run 10.8. Here is what is supported from the 2006 to 2008 models....

• Any Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook from late 2007 – late 2008 (Model Numbers: MB061*/B, MB062*/B, MB063*/B, MB402*/A MB403*/A MB404*/A, MB402*/B)

• The Mid-2007 Mac mini (Model Numbers: MB138*/A, MB139*/A)

• Late 2006 polycarbonate iMac (Model Number: MA710xx/A)

• The original early 2008 MacBook Air (Model Number: MB003LL/A)
