Installing Parallels help

I can't believe I can't do this.

I purchased Parallels and tried to install it today. I can't do it! It says it downloaded after I hit "install" and followed all the prompts but it never asked for the activation kay and now can't be found in finder.

HELP! Is there something I am missing? I am quite sure it is something simple

I looked online for "installing Parallels 7" but I can only find out how to install Windows 7, which I can't do until I can get this Parallels working!

Where did you purchase Parallels from? Usually, you should receive an eMail with the download link and activation key. Did you receive that?

No, I purchased it from Amazon and it came with a disc and an activation code.

First make sure that your Mac (you didn't tell us what you have or which version of OS X you're using) can run Parallels 7. After determining that, try reinstalling Parallels. Copy down any message that you get during the installation if it errors out or fails to install.

Oh, sorry. It is an iMac, Aug.2011 purchase from Apple with Lion, 2.7GHz.

I have tried to load it twice. It shows no error at all, just shows that it has finished downloading and then just shows the boxes to "install" all over again. The little icon that shows it downloading loads all the way, and then disappears.

PLEASE PLEASE tell me what you did to resolve this - I have exactly the same problem with a new iMac and an Amazon disk of Parallels 7!
