• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Can I use my digital camera as a web cam?

I was just wondering... because I don't have a web cam that is compatible with my mac (eMac OS X 10.3.9). So I thought I may be able to connect my digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 5600) and use it as a web cam through MSN messenger?
The thing is, I can't see anything around anywhere that will let me do this.

So first question... Can it be done?
Second one being... How?

Not with most cameras...
I believe some have a feature like this, but it is very rare.

You say don't don't have an OS X compatible cam - does that mean you have a PC webcam? If so you might be able to use it with your mac using the USB webcam driver for iChat.
Even if you don't already have one, it might be of interest as you could get any old cam and it should work...
Google for it...

I tried using my webcam, and it isn't recognised at all.
I don't have a camcorder either.

Oh well, nevermind. I'll just use my PC when I want to use it. Thanks anyway.
