I would be EXTREMELY cautious about these non-standard, oddball plug-ins ... they are THE major source of malware on the Mac, since they masquerade as "legitimate" plug-ins and users willingly install them.
Congratulations to you for having the sense to be suspicious.
I'd suggest finding a friend who has Netflix (or heck, getting it yourself, it's a whole $8 a month), there are quite a number of Doctor Who episodes available, both the recent (2005) reboot and the older series (selected stories). There are also a number of stories on YouTube (usually broken up into parts) you can find by typing "Doctor Who (name of doctor)."
Finally, you can often rent or buy Doctor Who DVDs cheap from video rental places. I've found them in pawn shops, even!
