• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

A large (80 min) iMovie 09 project hangs (beachballs) repeatedly & there seems to be no solution. I am considering migrating to either iLife 11 or Final Cut Pro X. However this will be a waste if the upgraded software does not solve the problem. Can anyone advise me on this dilemma?

The first things I'd do is:
- delete any old, redundant files you may have (old downloads etc)
- check you have a good chunk of free disk space - I'd recommend keeping the drive roughly 20% free
- Disk utility - repair/verify/check disk
- Download Onyx and run the automated scripts.
- restart the Mac and try again

Quick questions:
1. Which model of Mac do you have?
2. What's the processor speed and how much RAM do you have?
3. Which version of OSX do you have?
(you can get all this info from clicking the Apple symbol top-left and choosing 'About this Mac')

iMovie11 is well worth the upgrade for it's far better control of audio. You can buy it separately on the App Store for only a few £/$.
