It's been demoed running XBMC and receiving AirPlay requests too.

Quite an exciting little bit of kit, particularly in the education sector.

I was thinking about getting one if for nothing more than the novelty of it all. The fact that it runs Linux just makes it even better. ;)

That does seem to be the problem right now. Demand was apparently much greater than was expected. I just checked the ship dates for a reseller here and it appears that shipments will only start at the end of March. So yeah, that demand really is much greater than everyone thought, haha.

Same here.Have used various Linux distro's for years,on laptops and Netbooks, and this "piece of kit",would have been ideal for my 12 year old to use for "learning" purposes. If he ever stops using my ipad that is.

What's funny is that I went to search for it n eBay, and all I had to type for it to show the full name was "Ras." It new I was searching for Rasberry Pi. Guess they've had a lot of feedback from people searching for it. Someone is already selling one for more than $100.

I'm not sure I'd pay $100 for one but I can see that selling with ease. Hopefully I can find a distributor with one in stock because I'd love to get my hands on one. It's a tinkerer's dream. ;)

The man behing it as interviewed on BBC click, he remembers programming his old Synclare ZX spectrum and learning programming. Its a great idea to have a bare bones computer thats cheap enough for anybody to own and you can modify it to do anything.

I think the possibilities are endless, and I may get one for that price, just to see if I can make a linux based media server or to turn my TV into a browsing device with this tiny piece of kit

I think I read that I could handle 1080P media. I think it would be a brilliant device for a media center/server. Although with limited ports it could be somewhat of a setback for large amounts of data.

It could probably handle the job. I also read that it can handle media with ease and the "Model B" has an HDMI port.

While I think it's a very interesting little guy, I can honestly say that I'm not interested in purchasing one... I know that if I did, I would not end up using it frequently enough to justify owning it!

If you put an SD card in there, you could make it into a tidy little media server. ;)

That's what makes it so good, the "high end" model is only $25.

You can replace that with Debian if you're so inclined (download here).

I wonder how hot those devices get. There's no cooling so I wonder if you could put the board inside of something.

I would think you could, but you'd probably want to watch it when you first do it. It can't be much different from an iOS device. They are pretty powerful with no cooling measures.

Good point - they do have faster processors and manage to dissipate heat well considering the space constraints.
