Adding text to photos

Is there a way to add text onto a photo using iPhoto?

I couldn't see a way to do it.

If iPhoto doesn't do it is there an inexpensive photo editing program that i can download that provides this capability for Macbook Pro?

Not with iPhoto, but you can with Preview, which is on your Mac. You want the Tools Menu>Annotate.

So simple, been looking for an easy way to do this - thanks

You might also like Portraits & Prints, a free (but unsupported) program that not only works well with iPhoto and lets you add captions but also gives you way more borders and printing options.
