    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

Do you really need to convert the go pro footage to .mov and appleproress 422. Also any general go pro footage editing tips would be appreciated.

I do not have a GoPro, but I know quite a few people who do use them. Most, however, are using FinalCut Pro (9 or X) and they just plug in the camera to the PC and hit Import from Camera. I would almost assume the same would be true for iMovie.

What software are you trying to use?

FinalCut should just be able to pull it straight off the camera. It was nice to find out it would do the same for my Sony camera, as I had to convert those for iMovie, but FinalCut brought them straight in without issue.

GoPros are nice, and I wish I could afford about 5 of them for the shoot I am doing right now.

Both iMovie and FCPX will handle Go Pro footage straight from the camera...or the card itself. No need to do any converting or transcoding.

I'm using a Mac and a Go Pro (great camera) and I save my videos from the camera to the hard drive and then import them to Imovie as needed, no need to convert the files as the MP4 format works fine in Imovie.
