• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Will it make the editing process faster if I am going to put the media files in a external using USB 3 cables?

I am using Final Cut Pro X as editing software
And LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 as external drive
(LaCie - LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0)

It won't matter because your Mac is only capable of USB 2 speeds. The LaCie drive being USB 3 is backward compatible with USB 2 connections, however, the connect speed will be USB 2.

Also, from what I have been reading, FCP can use XSAN drives/shares, but not normal shares. I havent tried just USB devices, but I dont think the speed will be enough. Thunderbolt maybe.

I use a NAS device to back up the data, but that is it. Just too much to run over USB - my 10min film I am working on now comes in at a nice little 23gb source with all the cuts and such. I think you would be very disappointed when compiling/rendering.

Again, havent tried, yet.
