• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi Everyone,i am new to the mac world and still enjoying finding my way around and using fcpx for some video editing. When i have finished i have been exporting my video to my external hard drive in 1080p in prores 422.I recently saw something somewhere saying that that is a bad idea and exporting to h.264 would be a much better choice. Can someone please tell me if this is true and why?.
Thanks in advance Lee

Pro Res is an editing codec...And an enormous file size. If you plan on exporting I would go with H.264...mp4...Widely used for web uploads and maintains a quality output.

That's correct. You save files in something like ProRes during the editing process, but for exporting the finished product you'll want to use something standard such as H.264.
