• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm thinking of buy a Macbook Pro 15 or 17 inch 2.4/or 2.5 quad core mainly for video editing but I'd like to know if there's any difference between the two apart from the obvious screen size and weight. What are the advantages of having on over the other in terms of speed etc?

The 17" has several advantages: Larger screen size and the extra card slot. But it comes with a fairly hefty price increase and added weight to lug around.

But is the 17" any faster when it come to video editing and rendering?

No, it's the same since the CPU and graphics are identical. The extra $300 is for the screen size and card slot (as I stated above).

If you can live with a 15" screen and don't need the extra slot, go for it. It's a lot easier to haul around a 15" machine than a 17" one.

OK. Thanx a lot for the info. BTW are there significant speed increases between the 2.4 and 2.5 GHz CPUs?
