I am wondering anyones opinion on how well the following computers will work with Maya... I am finishing Animation 3 in college which is the basics and started maya 1 this semester... I really want a computer that can handle it well plus do anything else I may throw at it plus last a few years.. I sold my jeep and have 2000 in my pocket.. I really want to buy one of the following from my school store as I really don't want to buy anything used... here is what I'm looking at...

15-inch: 2.2 GHz
2.2GHz quad-core
Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz
500GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB GDDR5
$1,699.00
Was $1,799.00

-OR-

13-inch: 2.4 GHz
2.4GHz dual-core
Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz
500GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000

$1,099.00

Was $1,199.00
Students save $100

Will the 13" do the job? as I have a flatscreen at home I could hook up to (I think I'd hate using such a tiny screen for Maya) or am I just better off going with the 15"
Or is there any other suggestions aside from this... THANKS!

There's a hugh difference in price between the two systems you mentioned above for a good reason: Screen dimensions, CPU, and Graphics. The 15" machine is a superior system to use for the Autodesk Maya animation program.
It incorporates a dual graphics controller - an Intel HD 3000 integrated chipset and an ATI discrete graphics controller for more power and faster graphical rendition.

You might want to go to the Autodesk web site and get some idea of the system requirements they recommend for running Maya before making up your mind on what to buy.

The 15" machine (2.2 GHz) is a core i7 while the 13" (2.4 GHz) is a core i5. While it might appear slower, the 15" in fact is many times faster and more powerful than the 13".
