Puffing Sound while I surf the web

Late 2011 15 in MBP, 2.2 i7, 8 GB RAM; iPhone 4; iPad 2 16GB, AT&T
New to Mac and am often getting a puffing sound while I am surfer the web. I usually have a couple of tabs open in Safari and may have things like yahoo and ichat on in the background but did not have alerts enabled. Not too alarmed but just curious

Main-11" Air, iPhone 6+, iPad Mini 3, Hi-Fi Extras- Too many to count
that happened to me when i first got my mac. I then relized it was ichat when a buddy signs off.

after these posts I am assuming it is iChat but have turned off the alerts on it. Will try completely closing the program
