One my imacs allof the sudden takes 5 to 6 secs before entering sleep mode. Anything to be concerned about?

5-6 seconds, literally? That would seem to be normal behavior from my perspective.

If you have a lot of apps open, the computer is taking time to write the contents of RAM to disk. Close the apps BEFORE putting the computer to sleep and it's likely to go back to nearly-instant as mine does.

I've been having issues recently with my iMac waking up almost immediately after putting it to sleep and couldn't figure it.

I've just put it to sleep and then waved my hand over the IR receiver and wake up it did.

It was more like 15 secs before entering sleep mode. I tried the shutdown/unplug trick and it worked. Now she is a sleeping normally again.

What you did was to reset the SMC. That's the recommended cure for an insomniac iMac. :)
