I recently bought a refurbished G5 2.5 with 10.5.4 running very nicely. The previous owner is still the admin and PW is not known. Apart from reinstalling the os is there another solution?

Did you receive the Leopard install DVD with the machine when you purchased it? You can change the password by booting with that DVD and entering Utilities from the top menu. If you don't have the DVD, you'll have to buy one from eBay which can be expensive. Make sure you purchase a retail version of Leopard. (Black color disk.)

For your own security as well as that of the previous owner, I **strongly** recommend that you obtain a retail Leopard DVD, back up your own files, ERASE (zero out) the hard drive and reinstall the system, removing ALL traces of the previous owner and establishing yourself as the administrator.
