• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I am using iMovie v. 8.06 on my imac with OS 10.5.8

The video preview box is blank and will not show clips from downloaded videos in any format.

I tried deleting the com.apple.iMovie8.plist and repairing disk permissions as suggested in another forum, but this did not work.

Thanks for any suggested fixes.

In the latter case (E-cards), you probably need to update your Flash to the latest version such an old OS can work with. It could (very likely) be that they've simply moved on to a newer version of flash that's not compatible with 10.5.8 any more.

For iMovie, you (richard) use the phrase "downloaded videos" -- can you clarify what you mean by this? Are you importing from a movie camera, and if not, why not try that and see if it works?
