Vlc video to imovie????

HELP, ive been on my computer forever....

so i can finally see the videos in the vlc player, i try to save playlist but when im in imovie it seems like it isnt in the right format to be able to use. cause i can click on them when i try to open

do i have to convert or save a specific way?? i just want to be able to edit my videos please someone help me,
