    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

I have a MAC G-5 running OS X, 10.5.8 with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-117D. I am desperately trying to burn a dual layer dvd but every time I place a DVD in the tray it will not spin it up and kicks it out. Yes, I am using a dual layer disk, a DVD+DL. Even if I put the disk in without a burning program running, it rejects the disk. Can someone tell me what's going on???

You could try a different brand of dvd. Does it eject single layer dvds/cds? Your burner could have a fault.

I have tried that already. I have tried 3 different brands and they all eject the Dual layer but the single layers and the cd's play fine.

What does Apple System Profiler say about Disc Burning? Does DVD+R DL appear in the list of options?

I'd agree with Harry - not all DVD burners can burn DL... particularly on a machine of that vintage, if it's original, I'd be surprised if it had the capability.

You guys are right! The Profiler does not list it as having DVD+RDL. I guess I have to get a newer burner. Thanks

Pioneer DVR-118 are pretty cheap and a snap to install. Just do a Goog;r about installing optical drive in a G4.
