What do i do with a .font file?

2009 13" MBP with SSD
Never seen this before, I thought fonts were.otf and .ttf? But recently came across 2 different free fonts in .font format, put them into the Library\Fonts folder and they are ignored.

any ideas? thanks :|:[

Way... way too many specs to list.
I've never seen a .font formatted file. .fnt, sure it's a windows font
