New Photos buried in iPhoto

Since getting a new MBP & Lion, now when I download photos from my Nikon D5000, they're tossed at least a thousand pictures up in iPhoto (total of about 11,000 images) and it takes a while to find them. Rather confusing, esp since before, new downloads always appeared at the bottom of the iPhoto screen, whether coming from the D5000 or other cameras. Am I missing a preference here?

I never liked iPhoto to be honest, but isn't there a tab on the left "last imported"? Does that do the trick?

Yep, there is the "last imported," tab and then I can see those, but they're still often placed somewhere in the overall collection. I guess the biggest deal is that I no longer can drag photos within the collection to another place in the overall collection (like the end, where they used to appear).

I prefer Aperture to iPhoto, but iPhoto is a good tool for managing your photos, but like most tools there are tricks and techniques to getting the most out of them.
