DVD Burning

So I have never burnt a DVD I made a few animated shorts, and I made a menu for them and everything on IDVD.

Now I know there are a few different types of DVD's you can get, but I figure better ask first.

So here is a bit of info. I made the Menu on IDVD, I ALSO mashed all together on IMovie making a "Play All" There are a total of 20 Chapters the run time counts as "1:30:10" I have the title menu, A submenu for chapters- it has separate sub menus for 4 chapters each: 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20. And than a special features area where I interviewed all the actors I used.

SO BASICALLY WHAT I AM ASKING! Is what type of DVD do I need a single or double layer... AND what is the difference?

If the total running time for everything is around 1:30 it should fit on a single layer DVD which can hold about 4.7 GB of data per disc. The double-lyer discs have a second layer that can be recorded to. These discs can typically hold just ever 9 GB of data.

I personally have not had great luck getting successful burns with the dual layer discs. Never bothered to figure out why since the older DVD player I had seemed to not like home burned dual layer discs but played the single-layer ones fine.

iDVD will tell you if your Project exceeds the length to fit on a standard dvd. You can then go into Project Info and change the quality of your finished Project to try and fit it on a standard disc, or choose to use a dual layer disc.

I've only burned 2 or 3 dual layer discs and they have all worked.
