Officially that spec is below OSX Leopard, which requires a 867 MHz processor

iIt would run pretty slow, as well, even if you fooled OSX into an installation, and even if you added more RAM.

But what's the reason to dump Linux, is there a specific Mac app that you need to use.

Your system would easily run OSX Tiger 10.4, but if the apps you are after are Leopard or above only that wont be an option

I would see if you can get hold of 10.4 Tiger - a much better match for that machine

Thankfully retail copies of Tiger and now selling at more sensible prices, make sure you get a black X retail copy rather than a plain grey restore disk

I can vouch for tiger. I have it running on a G4 500Mhz, 768MB Ram and 18GB HDD. Not so hot for youtube, but runs safari, Adobe dreamweaver and photoshop CS3, Office 2004, iLife '09, and several PPC-based games (sim city 4, Zoo Tycoon 2, roller coaster tycoon 3, & a bunch of snes/nes/gb emulators.

The key is going to be getting a *retail* edition (black disc). Grey system discs will not work with that machine - so make sure you are particular about the version you end up buying.
