Missing emails

I have had my new Mac for a couple months. Love it. But I've noticed occasionally that it would say "downloading x number of emails" and there would be one missing. I thought it was just me because I couldn't find them in any other folders. I have not changed or even made any "rules." Today it specifically said it was receiving TEN emails and only 5 showed up! I run a co-op and can't afford to miss emails. Can anyone help?

I have a POP server and there is no other option.

Hello and welcome to MacForums ,

I worried about that when i switched a couple of years ago until I realized that the mail activity window included not only new emails but was also indicating mail being deleted as well as moved between files...
I have since just closed that window and have never really lost an email..

Hope this helps

Plus it might also be counting emails in your sent or drafts folders...
