The iPhone is nearly 4 months late now and the september iPod event is MIA. What has been going on with the slipping dates?

Was there a scheduled release date for the iPhone that was missed?

I don't think so. AFAIK the projection has always been for Fall not specifically September.

Exactly. Also, the past iPhone releases have been July or August. So Oct is only 2 or 3 months later than that schedule. It's not an iron-clad schedule that they're contracted to or anything.

Don't forget they released new iMacs, MBPs, and a 2nd gen iPad this year. They've been busy.

... somehow samsung can build 1000 new product in the time Apple builds 5 lol.
What I mean though is that iphone announcement has always been WWDC, the iPod event has almost always been solidly placed at september. if apple is going to have an iPhone event tuesday why then go another week to the iPod event, the longer they wait the worse the numbers are for Christmas.

Who says Apple has to follow that schedule? Previous patterns don't always dictate the present. ;)

Agree with the statement above, there is no set schedule for any hardware / software release made by Apple. Also, I don't foresee a problem with sales numbers after reviewing the last few quarterly results that have been posted.

From all I have read and heard over the last few months, Apple is right on track with the iPhone 5 and IOS5 for that matter.

Sure, the current assumed release date bucks the past trend for releases - no argument there. I don't think it's a big deal though. They have had their main pitchman "retire" recently (during the season these iPhones and iPods get the most exposure) which I'm sure doesn't help things move along smoothly. I'd rather see them regroup and get it done right than meet some anticipated date. I'm pretty sure it will sell like hotcakes regardless of it's release date.

Queue the Buy/Sell/Trade section for "feeler" ads regarding $600+ used "but like new, only dropped once, been in a case since day one" iPhone 4 for sale adds... ;)

3GS will probably be for sale here - it's been dropped more than once - but only on carpet :D

Assuming there is an iphone5:( Which also makes it feasible to see the 5 because it will be too long of a wait if the iphone4S is the only thing to be unveiled.

My dad is getting my iphone since his is only 16gb's. His will go on ebay, and I'm confident I can get at least 400 for it. *MINT* If anyone wants to buy a used iphone for 600 they're a...wait...bring him to me, I'll sell him mine! :D

It takes a lot longer to write a document than it does to photocopy one ;)

I really could care less about the iPhone 5.... unless it has 4G, but somehow I doubt that will be the case.

iOS 5 on the other hand, I can't wait for - bring on the new notification system!

An Apple product is never early, nor is it late.

It always gets to market precisely when Apple means for it to.

Way... way too many specs to list.
We can also include the logistical nightmare that was the earthquake in Japan. It's effected all sorts of industries that use any kind of integrated chip assemblies.
