Subtitles do not show in my computer

I copied a movie file from my friend. It was a Bollywood film so I needed the subtitles. On her computer, the subtitles can be seen when opened. But when I tried it on my computer, the subtitles disappeared. I did not do anything, so I wonder if how could I make the subtitles appear in my computer..:\
