Well, put the camera down and get to it! ;)

Congrats on your new purchase, welcome to the Mac club, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks! I'm using it now as I type this lol...i'm loving it so far.

Here's what I have so far:

iLife 11 (installed) - iDVD and iWeb not included though
No backup DVD from Apple

Should I call Apple and ask for one?

Apple is always changing things. What they used to include...they may no longer be including. I would say calling them would be the best thing.

BELIEVE ME...if you were supposed to get something (and didn't)...Apple 99% of the time has absolutely no problems making things right!:)

^Thanks for the advice! I told them that I was expecting iDVD and iWeb installed on my machine and I was informed that they'll be sending me a boxed set of iLife 11 for free! :woot:

Good going both on the new Mac and on the Ilife 11. With Lion they are not giving a DVD any longer and iWeb and iDvd are no longer included in the iLife from the App store.

See what I mean...Apple tends to bend over backwards to keep customers happy!:)

As for the DVD backup, you don't get one anymore (if your machine came with Lion, as it would have having bought it new).

As for backup, Apple only offers a way to boot to the Emergency Recovery Tool (story and link: Apple posts tool to make Lion Recovery USB drives | Electronista). You'll need a small thumb drive (1GB or more). This replicates the Emergency Recovery partition already on your hard drive (but hidden until you need it). If something were to happen to your system but not hard drive failure, the built-in recovery partition will help you fix it and/or restore from your external Time Machine backup (because you DO have one, RIGHT??).

Should your hard drive ever fail completely, the thumb drive with the Recovery Partition on it does the same job, and will let you restore from your Time Machine backup to a new hard drive.

^Yeah. I've been reading up on it and thanks for your input.

I just installed Photoshop CS5!

A lot, and not very - if you've never used CS before.

CS5 retails in the UK for about £600, which is a lot for something you may not even like. Personally, you'd be better off buying Photoshop Elements 9. Costs a tenth of the price, and isn't as 'heavy' as CS5 but still retains many of the features.

Hope this helps.

I just recently purchased a Macbook 13" and Ive wanted to get Photoshop. How much is it and how easy is it to use?

You should be able to download the 30 day trial from Adobe for free. Give full blown CS5 a try, and then try Elements too. You may be happy with CS5, or you might just stick with Elements and be glad you saved a few hundred bucks...
