Apple Mail quits when sent

If anyone has run into this, I would love to know why my mail quits every time I send a maessage with an attachment. Sometimes it quits with just text but it quits more times than not. I've been using OS 10.3 for a while now and have not installed anything new since it started happening.Any suggestions?! Thanks if you do!
