• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi

My father is finally moving over to apple! :)

He loves to do home movie editing. He shoots on camcorder HD

We are looking at getting the low level iMac - for budget reasons - but there is no reason to get it if it doesn't meet our needs!

Would the below be okay to edit HD footage on? (would be using an external disc for scratch disc etc)

21.5-inch 2.5GHz quad-core

• 1920 x 1080 resolution
• 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
• 4GB Memory
• 500GB hard drive
• 1 x SDXC card slot
• AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory
• FaceTime HD Camera
• Thunderbolt port
• 8 x double-layer SuperDrive

Unless he's into extremely heavy third party plug-ins for multiple effects he'll be fine with that set up...running iMovie, FCE, FCP...including X
