I am new to using Macs but have begun using my wife's and noticed something. Every time I open an attachment in an email, doesn't matter what kind (excel, PDF, word, etc.) The attachment opens in the applicable program but a window also opens in safari as "Untitled". Why does this happen every time and is there a way to stop it from happening?

Thanks!!!

What email application are you using? I don't have that happening in Mail.
Neither do I.

It sounds to me like the file attachment is "locked" which of course prevents [name of program] from opening the original (since you can't make changes to a locked file), so it opens a copy which is, of course, called "Untitled."

This is not normal behaviour, I'm inclined to think that a permissions run with Disk Utility would put things right.
