Though activations of new Android devices are now significantly outpacing iOS, it is viewed as representative of a larger trend of surging growth in the smartphone market, which will also benefit Apple.

The market has not yet reached the saturation point so growth of any single platform doesn't necessarily mean negative things for competitors. Yet.
Unlike the PC market where the majority of Apples sales mean someone is switching or at least using another OS besides Windows and thereby costing them $$$.
