• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I believe that iDVD takes .mov files. If you use iMovie, to edit your video of import your movies. Then you are ready to import them into iDVD. Where are your video coming from?

Import

Yeah, you can use iMovie. Simply import your clip(s) into iMovie, then "Export" (iMovie 3) or "Share" (iMovie 4) to "Quicktime: Full DV".

Once that's done, it spits out a .mov file for you to import into iDVD.

Oh yeah, DVDs are burnt with a resulting file format of MPEG 2 with an extension of .vob

Let me know if you need more clarification...Been propped in front of the Mac several times to do video rips as an errand...don't think the job's great though :p
