Apple finishes Mac OS X Lion, sends GM to developers

lion-sm.jpg
Apple through its developer page sent out the finished, or gold master, build of Mac OS X Lion. The 11A511 build should be the one to reach the Mac App Store and possibly a wave of new Macs. No mention has been made of when the OS will be made available to the wider public....

Anyone want to guess at the release date? How about the 4th of July?

I'm going to guess that given the new distribution method that the gap between the GM and release will be much shorter than normal. So, here's comes my speculation: Snow Leopard - GM was done August 11 (source) and it was released to the public on August 28. So, that's a 17 day gap. Given that, I guess it'll be released before July 18th. That's the best I can do with the evidence I have. ;)

I heard from my Apple obsessed friend it would be July 6. Note this is just a dude who is really into Apple not an insider. He seemed very confident though.

I've heard a lot of people mentioning July 14. I'd like to think it's sooner, I'm looking forward to it. If it is July 14 though, that's not too bad... 11 days to go! :)

I've signed up to Apple's email notification on their website and I've not had an email yet so it's likely to be at least a few more days yet.

Can't wait to get it, and I'm glad I can't just download it and save time/gas.

The thing I'm really wanting to get my hands on is iOS 5!
