Yay! A cable and a firmware update - now all I need is something to connect it to.

All it will take now is for Dell or HP to come out with one then third party products will roll out quickly.

The part of that article that interested me was the external dock with GPU.

That is an interesting idea.

I thought so as well. I wonder if that idea will propagate? I can see several potential evolution paths as well as reasons to do this. Should be interesting to see what happens.

That external GPU idea is awesome! Light power on the go for max battery and size efficiency, and max power at home with the dock. I would really like something like this from Apple!

Sony can come out with a notebook and add-on at $3k that uses a proprietary port to boot. Not a peep.

If Apple came out with the same first, the PC fanboys would be all over it asking why they should pay an extra $2k more than their DIY rig.

I was actually thinking the same exact thing. Technically speaking, if Sony's unit works with a proprietary connection, and still allows for better performance, Apple using their TB connection would open up even more possibilities. I would instantly be in line for one if Apple made it! Instantly!

Or, Apple users complain about the price, but buy two of them.
PC users don’t complain about the price, but they also don’t buy them, or buy a Chinese knock-off for 4.00

Honestly, for all those stupid expensive scam cables, 50 bucks for what this cable actually is, and with it's limited supply/one producing company, 50 bucks really doesn't seam like much. I'm not sure how easily other companies could copy it since it has apple firmware in it.
