When did you last try that?

Apple's new policy?

Hardware says it can't... although it did, a month or so ago

iTunes doesn't see it in the tray

The drive spins up makes the clunky noises, and then stops. I'm trying to import some old CDs, as I don't have a CD Player any more. They're all clean and unscratched.

I recently installed Snow Leopard from the DVD in there

Try a spritz (just a spritz, don't go nuts) of compressed air in there. Often works wonders.
