He wants to use the imac....a korg triton keyboard
and a akg mic

he wants inputs on the interface 2 mic ..2 regular

Mackie's are great interfaces. the Korg Triton is a pretty sophisticated MIDI instrument, you might wanna look at a dedicated MIDI interface for it, to unlock its true potential.

If the akg mic is a condensor mic (look in the packaging, it will say, or give me the model no, and i can tell you) you need an interface with Phantom Power (+48v) to operate. it wont work without it.

Good interface brands: M Audio, Focusrite, Avid, Mackie

I wish i had a girlfriend that would spend £2000 on me...

The only interfaces i have first hand experience with are the Digi-design MBoxes and the Pro Tools HD systems, since i use Pro Tools for my recordings, and these are what they use primarily in studios. Pro Tools HD cant be used with iMacs, so forget about that one.

I must say the MBoxes are brilliant. I use it with my Macs all the time.

Focusrite Sapphire Pro's are meant to be quite good. youd have to check they were phantom powered.

no. The Mbox is now made by Avid, which own M Audio, but they arent the same brand.

as long as it says "Phantom powered (+48v)" somewhere it is fine.

As ive said, I have only used the Mbox. out of those three thats what I'd pick. Go to review sites or look at some un boxings on youtube for the other two, and do your research.
