Would it be at all possible to take the "guts" of a new MacBook pro 13" and put it in my old 2006 17" mbp
Is this impossible??

Anything's possible with enough modding, as far as whether you would get anything out of the display, that is questionable.
I wouldn't even consider messing up your new MBP if I were you, and either sell it and save up for an upgrade, or get an external display for it.

Nothing's impossible, I supposed, but the new machines use entirely different connectors for video displays, graphics and other system components, so I'm going to say that on a practical level this is not doable.
