• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have some family movies which I've transferred from VHS to DVD. I have burned the image into .dmg on my Mac and now would like to be able to see them in iMovie to edit and upload to YouTube to share short clips with family.

What is a recommended program for this? I'm sure there are lots out there but I've never been much into any video editting and I'm a relative Mac Newbie.

ANY feedback or input is greatly appreciated.:)

You'll need to use something like Handbrake to convert your DVD to a video file:
HandBrake

You can then use iMovie to edit.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I found several, I would prefer free but would rather it be a one-step process.

Has anyone heard or used TanBee Video Converter or any others?

Handbrake is free, and it's a one step process. If you want that one step to include importing into iMovie, then you're out of luck.
