I bought a new Macbook Pro battery since my old one went down the drain.

Do I need to do anything special? Such as let it fully charge initially and let it drain to complete empty the first time?

I remember having to do this on with my old PC batteries.

There is so many "wives tales" out there about what to do.

Your Mac's Specs
Way... way too many specs to list.
Yep, you should calibrate it (as you summarized). Then continue to do so about monthly

schweb's reference is pretty good. Basically, the only reason to deep-discharge a Li-ion battery is to reset the battery calibration, not for the chemistry in the battery. Deep discharges are harder on Li-ion batteries and are not recommended for typical usage. They prefer to be kept topped up. Nevertheless, all Li-ion batteries start to slowly degrade two years after manufacture, regardless of duty cycle. The decline is, however, very slow.
