ibook and ext display

deciding b/w ibook and powerbook 12". I have the 20" apple lcd and want a laptop to use with my ext. display. I understand that ibook can only limit to 1024x768. Spanning is not an issue to me..mirroring is fine...$$$ is. Is there a hack for the ibook to display 1680x1050?? Don't need all the speed with a powerbook...

there is a screen spanning hack, i dont know if it supports 1680x1050 though. do a search for screen spanning here on the boards and there are already some threads about this. i use the hack my self but i do not have an xternal monitor that has that resolution.
