Does further font-smoothing slow down my Mac?

I downloaded this program called 'TinkerTool' which main priority is to deliver hidden system preferences to your fingertips and let you play around with your system. I changed the font smoothing option from medium (for most LCDs) to strong. It did not say whether performance would be affected but it looks a whole bunch nicer. I do a lot of work on my machine and just wanted to know whether it would effect performance/how fast my Mac will run?...

Any help would be appreciated.
