I didn't want to pay for microsoft office, so I downloaded neooffice (why pay for somthing when you can get something just about as good for free?). The only problem is, osx still wants to open *.doc's with the office for mac trial that I deleted. How can I get it to open them all to open in neooffice? I know I can do it on an individual file basis, but I would like something like in windows where it will just change the default file asociation.

If you do a "Get Info" on the .doc file, you will see in the info window where it shows what program opens it. You can change it to whatever you want and then choose "Change All" where is says 'Use this application to open all documents like this'

Which works, but only on a file-by-file basis. (Useful if you want to open a particular file in something other than the default.)
