I understand its normal for my iMac to get warm on the back when its working hard, but would you consider a Skype video call to China for 2 hours to be "working hard"?

nope, i call China all the time (I am being serious, btw :) ). are you monitoring your temps with iStat Pro? also check out your load in activity monitor. iMacs get hot at the top at the back, because thats where the exhaust is.

Nope. I don't think I have iStat on my Mac. It only seemed to do it with Skype 5.0.1.922 after about 2 hours...then again I've not had my iSight on for that long before. It wasn't hot enough to fry an egg, but definitely comparable to the bun warmers in the seats of my car.

well thats absolutely fine and normal. just remember, if your Mac does overheat, it will shut off before damage occurs. There is nothing to worry about.

I suspected as much. You know how it is with a new baby, way too cautious.
