Oh ok. My camcorder comes with a cable that ends with a male firewire. Is there a way of getting an adapter to connect with the male head of the firewire and get it into the usb? like female firewire to male usb or something?
I'm yet to see one on amazon.co.uk

As far as I know, there is no other way to download from a DV camcorder, other than by Firewire. I believe it's because Firewire transmits a constant stream of data(which is what video is) but USB transmits in packets, so even if you found an adaptor you could transfer data files but not video.

Ah.. So the only way would be using a friends computer with a firewire port or by buying something along the lines of a sony dv deck?

Yeah, there's no Firewire-to-USB adapters. A few companies tried, but they a) didn't work and b) cost a fortune.

If you could hop into a time machine and head for let's say the year 2015, you might EASILY be able to find a FW-to-Thunderbolt adapter, but of course you don't yet have Thunderbolt and those adapters haven't yet appeared (but they will!).
